   $8,700 Raised for Cancer Awareness

ACS Names the OBA a Top Community Fundraiser

The second annual Shop for a Cure to benefit the American Cancer Society went off without a hitch this year. Despite the economic hardships, shoppers still came out to participate in the event Friday, October 14th! It was a terrific day of giving, with stores all along Ocean Drive committing to donate a portion of all proceeds to the American Cancer Society. The result? Another fantastic outpouring of community support that earned the Oceanside Business Association a Top Community Fundraiser award for hosting the annual event. Thanks to all who participate in making this community great!

The Taste of Vero Raised over $5,000 for Charity

Thanks to the hard work and dedication of all participants, the Taste of Vero raised just over $5,000 in ticket sales for and private donations to the Children's Home Society. Many thanks to Georgia Irish, the Oceanside Business Association Taste of Vero Chairperson, as well as to all participating retailers and restaurants. "Despite the weather, the community really came out and came together to support a worthy cause. We are so proud to have been a part of this event." says Event Coordinator Brittany Swartz.

Shop For a Cure 2011

The Oceanside Business Association is building a team to participate in Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk

to benefit the American Cancer Society of Indian River County.

A Fundraising event to support The ACS has been planned called Shopping For a Cure.  The day long event will take place

on Friday October 14th.  Participating Oceanside Merchants will provide a day of shopping and hospitality in an

effort to help find a cure for breast cancer. 30 Stores will participate on Ocean Drive, Beachland Blvd and Cardinal Drive.

Each participating merchant will donate a portion of the day’s business to the American Cancer Society

of Indian River County.  Donations to the ACS will also be collected throughout the day.

Team Tee shirts will also be provided for anyone who wishes to join in the walk the

following day (October 15th) which is being held at Sebastian medical Center

Please support the ACS and Shop for a Cure!

The 3/50 Project

Shopping for a Cure 2010

Now that most of the money is in I wanted to follow up on the "Shopping for a Cure" event. The money raised for the Indian River County American Cancer Society was $8,700.00. That is the total from any participating stores % of sales and any separate donations collected. Our group, The OBA Merchant Team was the largest team and the top fundraising team for the entire event!  We should be very proud of our first "charitable event" done as a group. Nancy Madsen, director of the ACS in our county is coordinating a "check presentation" next Friday. She will be reaching out to Vero Beach Magazine, 32963 and the Press Journal to be present for the presentation. She would love for our entire group to be in the picture. The presentation will be at Humiston Park on Friday November 5th at 9am. Please come and wear your t-shirts from the event. Thank you to all the stores that participated in this event. We have learned a great deal about what goes into planning an event like this. As a group there are many more things we can do to plan and promote for next year. We have already started a list of ideas. Some of the ideas are...Using the radio for advertising the event ahead of time. (free for charity events) as well as publications like The Cultural Connection and Luminaries. Taking advantage of the OBA web site and face book. Running contests between the shops for the largest donation. Putting signs out around the area the week before the event. Setting up a tent at the Farmer's Market and Concert the week before the event....Please fill out the surveys that Martin has emailed with any suggestions or ideas.   It is very exciting to be part of group that is giving a wonderful donation back to our community.

Thank you again, Deana Marchant
